Wow, this is cool. As far as I was aware, the state of the art was a device like a plug adaptor that fits between the socket and the appliance and meters the energy, maybe allowing wireless control. This idea is a lot more elegant. Only a couple of problems - all the wall mounted sockets have to be rewired (!), and suddenly its not so easy for people who know what they're doing to do home DIY with electrical appliances.
